Fioricet Description

DescriptionAcetaminophen, Butalbital, and caffeine, which are used together in an oral formulation for the treatment of pain, particularly headaches. Paracetamol is a non-narcotic analgesic for pain and headache relief. Butalbital is a barbiturate used for its sedative effect. Caffeine is contained in many analgesics and can be useful in migraine and vascular headaches. Fioricet with Codeine is also available. The combination of acetaminophen and codeine provides greater analgesic effect than that obtained acetaminophen alone or by higher doses of opioids. In addition, this combination can cause fewer side reactions than do either single dose analgesic agent.
Before using this medicineIn deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For frovatriptan, the following should be considered:
Allergies-Be sure to tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Butalbital or other barbiturates or acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. Also tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
pregnancyFDA pregnancy category C. This means that its effect on the unborn child is not known. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.
Breast nutritionallyThis combined medication passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
